Cowal Championship (August 29, 2009) The band concluded its 2009 competition campaign at the last major of the season in Dunoon, Scotland. In a field of 13 Grade One bands, Ballycoan finished in 8th place. The drum corp ended up finishing 5th overall in the RSPBA Champion of Champions table. Ballycoan would like to thank all who supported the band throughout the year. The band will take a brief break before preparing for the 2010 season. _________________________________________ North West Championship (August 22, 2009) Ballycoan competed in Portrush this Saturday at the last competition in Northern Ireland for the year. In the MSR contest, the band placed 3rd overall. With the points accumulated throughout the year, Ballycoan won the 2009 Northern Ireland Champion of Champions title for the fifth time in the bands history. The drum corp also won the Champion of Champions title. Ballycoan travels next to Dunoon, Scotland for the final competition of the year, the Cowal Championship. _________________________________________ Ballycoan Win Grade One Worlds Qualifier, 12th Overall in Final (August 15, 2009) Ballycoan made the trip over to Glasgow this past week for the 2009 World Pipe Band Championship on Saturday. The band had to play first out of 15 bands in the qualifier round that morning. In cold and rainy conditions, the band played its Clan McCrea Society MSR. Ballycoan ended up winning the qualifier for the second time in the bands history. In the final, the band again had to play first on. After having two solid performances in the MSR and Medley events, Ballycoan ended up 12th overall (tied 11th, lost on MSR preference). The band heads next to Portrush for the final competition in Northern Ireland. _________________________________________ Ulster Championship (August 8, 2009) Ballycoan competed at the Ulster Championship in Newcastle on Saturday. The contest consisted of both MSR and medley. In a very competitive field, featuring bands from Ireland, Scotland, Australia and USA, the band placed fourth overall out of seven with two solid runs. Our bass section took top honours for the first time at the Ulsters in Grade One. The band now gears up for the World Pipe Band Championship in Glasgow this Saturday. You can watch live action video of Ballycoan at the Worlds, beginning at 9:00am (Scottish time). _________________________________________ Bangor Championship (August 1, 2009) The band took second place overall at the championship in Bangor in a field of four bands. The band also won best drums for the day. The next contest will be in Newcastle for the Ulster Championship. _________________________________________ European Championship (July 25, 2009) The band traveled to Inverclyde, Scotland for the third Major this season. In rather sunny conditions, the band placed twelfth in Grade One playing our number two medley. Visit our Gallery to view photos of the day. Following the result of the contest, the draw for the Worlds Grade One qualifier was announced. Ballycoan will be playing on first (9:00am) in a field of fifteen Grade One bands from around the globe. The bands next appearance will be at the championship in Bangor this Saturday. _________________________________________ All-Irelands (July 4, 2009) Ballycoan competed at the All-Irelands this past Saturday in Lisburn. The band played both MSR and Medley for this contest, placing fourth overall in Grade One. The band is scheduled next for the European Championship in Inverclyde, Scotland in three weeks. _________________________________________ British Championship (June 27, 2009) Ballycoan competed in the second Major of the season in Banbridge this past Saturday. The band put on a solid performance playing its number one medley, placing eighth overall out of twelve bands. The drummers took home a third place finish! The bands next performance will be at the All-Ireland championship in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. _________________________________________ County Down Championship (June 20, 2009) The band traveled to Portadown this weekend to compete in the County Down Championship. In a contest that offered both MSR and Medley, the band finished second out of three in both events and second overall for the day. Our Drum Major Paula Braiden won the adult grade as well. The band will be competing next at the second major of the season, the British Championship in Banbridge. _________________________________________ Mid-Ulster Championship (June 13, 2009) Ballycoan competed at the Championship in Cookstown this past Saturday. The band played, for the first time this season, its number two MSR (Clan MacRea Society, Susan MacLeod, John MacKechnie) placing third out of three bands. The band will be competing next in Portadown for the County Down Championship. _________________________________________ Ballycoan at Carrickfergus (June 6, 2009) The band won the County Antrim Championship this past Saturday. In a field of three bands, Ballycoan won both the piping and drumming, playing it's number one medley. Visit our Gallery to view photos of the contest. The bands next performance will be at the Mid-Ulster Championship in Cookstown. _________________________________________ Victory in Enniskillen (May 30, 2009) Ballycoan won the MSR event at the County Fermanagh Championship. The band played its number one set in very warm, sunny conditions, taking first place for both piping and drumming out of four bands (two G2 bands). The band travels next to Carrickfergus for the County Antrim Championship.
